Biography Paintings Commissioned Work New Releases Schedule Carol McCrady, a native of Glenwood Minnesota, is the oldest of six children. She grew up on a dairy farm, retreating to the basement to sketch. She attended the University of Minnesota and worked as a house parent for troubled juveniles. Carol studied sociology and art at the Minnesota Institute of Science and Arts. She called Enterprise Alabama home from 1979 until 2006 when she relocated to Madison Alabama.

Carol was led by her guardian angel to discover a French book describing the preparation of papyrus for ancient religious use. Carol copied the process and began growing papyrus at her studio.

Self-taught, Carol is the sole artist in North America who grows, processes, and paints the papyrus with sacred images as they were once produced in medieval Europe. Hailed by curators and fellow artists as a Renaissance painter in the Byzantine and Celtic styles, Carol resurrects the religious works prized by museums. Her original pieces often require several months to complete.

Carol’s credits include: acceptance into the Women’s Museum of Art in Washington, D.C.; personal appearances at Walt Disney World; Best of Show in states from the Atlantic Seacoast to the gulf Coast; invitations to Renaissance festivals; television appearances; and numerous commissioned pieces for cathedrals. Her work has been exhibited in several museums and galleries throughout the continental United States.

Carol testifies that her work is inspired and reflects her spiritual journey. She would be honored to share her spiritual journey with you. Her journey includes her “dark night of the soul” following the death of her youngest daughter, Edien. After her daughter’s wrongful death, she was emotionally resurrected and healed through her artwork, angels on papyrus. Her completed piece of the Angel Raphael testifies to God’s presence in her darkest times.

Carol’s healing birthed her Raphael angel and the story surrounding it, which she has described as “Surviving Loss – Meditation, Mindfulness, and Ministry,” comforts others. She is being led to share her life’s journey and the healing she experienced. As a guest speaker, she brings her artwork and discusses the papyrus making process.
